Legal Driver

June 19, 2008 at 4:14 am (Uncategorized)

I finally got my learner’s permit today! I have never had to sign, print, and write my name in cursive so many times in one day. It was pretty wild, as Anna would say. Like most drivers licenses I’ve seen, my picture is not very good; at least it’s not hideous or anything. Right now I have my temporary permit, which is just a slip of paper. My actual permit w/picture should come in the mail in a few weeks. I must say, that my first drive to the school and back was pretty rough. I almost went past a few stop lines and hit eleven imaginary cars in the parking lot while trying to park. If that’s how bad normal parking is, I don’t even want to attempt parallel parking. Night for now. ~Heather

Back where I belong at last

June 14, 2008 at 2:06 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , )

Today I went over to Briar Creek Ranch, the little place I will be taking riding lessons, and met the instructor and her horses. When I stepped into her barn, it was the closest I had been to horses in seven months. I have never found somewhere I feel more at place than with the animals I love. I’m pretty sure the lady’s name was Missy Pies. Her name is so great! I hope to start sometime next week. For $125 per month, I can ride twice a week. I will be doing a lesson session and a gaming show session every week. Missy even said that since I have a few years previous experience, I should have no trouble entering the Caledonia County Fair in August. I expected to miss the show season this Summer! As long as I keep working 20+ hours a week I should be able to help my grandparents pay for it. Wow. To speak truthfully, I never thought I would ride again. I’m so relieved that things will be getting better VERY soon. ~Heather

A Brighter Future?

June 11, 2008 at 5:13 am (Uncategorized) (, , , , , , , )

So I finally got someone in my family to schedule a visit to a place where I might take horse riding lessons. The woman who gives them charges $150 a month for two lessons a week. Which is actually cheap for around here. She is also involved in a barrel racing show that happens every Friday evening. That’s what I’m doing this week, going to see her with my grandma and then watching the show. If we don’t boil to death in the mean time, that is. So far this week, except today, the weather hasn’t gone below 88. My sister and I had walked to our home-school teacher’s house in sunny summer heat and humidity and not more than ten minutes after we got there, the wind picked up like crazy. The living room got completely dark and all this thunder went off like a shotgun for a few minutes. The lights even flickered on and off. It rained so hard we couldn’t see out the window, with pebbles of hail in top of that. To make a long story short, our Spanish was totally interrupted. Anyway, if I hadn’t been having a visit with grandma and going out to finally see some horses after a seven month furlough from riding, I’d have tried to go to Six Flags with the Fords, Dryers, and Campbells. But I decided that I would rather be with horses in ninety-degrees than an amusement park with a bunch of “clicky” teens who step on me. Somehow knowing horse may yet have a part in my future makes everything seem a little brighter. OK, a lot brighter. ~Heather

My First Blog!

Wow! I can’t believe I actually got around to making one of these. Now, if I can only get people to read it. My sister has a different blog to post her artwork called lovingartforlife.blogspot.com, so I think I’ll post stuff I’ve written occasionally. My life can be pretty chaotic sometimes. Don’t worry, you (whoever you are) will see glimpses of it in this bloggy thing. TTFN. Ta ta for now, as Tigger would say. (Yes, I do have a baby sister who watches Winnie the Pooh.)
